ASSISTANT CARPENTER/WINDOW RESTORER

Location: Asheville, North Carolina Employment Type: Full-time (30 hours/week) Compensation: $20-25/hour depending on experience Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity:

We’re seeking a detail-oriented, passionate individual who wants to build a meaningful career in historic preservation and grow their skills as a carpenter. This is a hands-on role where you will learn the art and craft of window restoration, finish carpentry, and preservation techniques from an experienced craftsman. If you have a love for old homes, a reliable work ethic, and the patience to master traditional techniques, this is your opportunity to grow with a mission-driven company.

This isn’t just a job, it’s a pathway to mastery and it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, patience, and positivity.

The Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of painting and finishing techniques

  • Reliable transportation and basic hand tools

  • Capable of lifting/moving heavy equipment 

  • Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and at heights

  • Demonstrated experience in a related position with strong references

  • Excellent communication skills, patience, and diligence

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Non-smoker preferred

  • Genuine passion for historic homes and preservation work

The Role:

  • Restore and preserve historic wooden windows and doors using traditional techniques.

  • Prepare, paint, and finish wood surfaces to the highest standards

  • Perform work both independently and collaboratively on residential restoration projects with other teammates and trade professionals 

  • Learn preservation best practices and sustainable building principles
